Understanding Credits

Learn how TrussNote credits work, how they are consumed, and how to get more.

Updated April 7, 2026

Credits are the currency that powers every AI-generated output in TrussNote. Understanding how they work helps you get the most out of your plan.

What are credits

Each time you run an AI tool, a small number of credits are deducted from your organization's pool. Credits represent the computational cost of generating detailed, professional-grade reports using large language models.

Different tools consume different amounts depending on the complexity of the output. A quick RFI response uses fewer credits than a full zoning analysis or detailed proposal.

Where to see your credit balance

Your remaining credits are shown in the left sidebar of the dashboard. You can also view a detailed breakdown by going to Settings > Billing.

From the Billing page you can see:

  • Total credits included in your plan
  • Credits used this billing period
  • Credits used per team member
  • Any top-up credits you have purchased

How credits reset

Credits reset at the start of each billing period (monthly). Unused credits do not roll over to the next month.

Top-up credits (purchased separately) do not expire and are used after your plan credits are exhausted.

What happens when credits run out

When your organization runs out of credits, AI tools are temporarily unavailable until your plan resets or you purchase a credit top-up. You will see a notification in the dashboard before you reach zero.

Your saved reports and data are never affected by credit exhaustion. You can always view, export, and share previously generated reports even with zero credits remaining.

How to get more credits

You have two options:

Option 1: Upgrade your plan Higher plans include more credits per month. See the Plans and Pricing article for a comparison.

Option 2: Purchase a credit top-up You can buy additional credits from the Billing page without changing your plan. Top-up credits are added instantly and do not expire.

Per-member credit limits

Admins can set individual credit limits for each team member to control how the shared pool is allocated. This is useful for larger teams where a single heavy user could exhaust credits for everyone else.

To set a per-member limit, go to Settings > Team members and click the three-dot menu next to a member's name.
