City Comment Review

Upload city plan check comments and get an AI-generated response strategy with code citations and resolution paths.

Updated April 7, 2026

The City Comment Review tool transforms raw plan check comment sheets from building departments into structured response strategies. Instead of spending hours manually cross-referencing code sections, you get a complete response guide in minutes.

What you need

  • A city comment letter or plan check correction list (PDF or pasted text)
  • The project jurisdiction (city and state)
  • Optionally: project type and basic description for more targeted responses

How to use the tool

  1. Open City Comment Review from the sidebar
  2. Upload your comment sheet as a PDF, or paste the text directly
  3. Enter the jurisdiction
  4. Add a brief project description (optional but recommended)
  5. Click Generate Response

What the report includes

The AI processes each comment individually and returns:

  • Comment summary restated in plain language
  • Code section cited (IBC, CBC, local amendments)
  • Recommended response with suggested revision language
  • Drawing or document action required
  • Priority level (critical, moderate, minor)
  • Estimated revision complexity

Comments are grouped by discipline (architectural, structural, mechanical, fire/life safety) for easier distribution to consultants.

Supported comment formats

The tool works best with:

  • Standard plan check correction lists (DSA, DBS, local building departments)
  • Architect/engineer comment sheets in PDF format
  • Pasted plain text from email or Word documents

Handwritten comments on physical redlines are not currently supported.

Exporting and distributing

After generation you can:

  • Download a formatted PDF response matrix
  • Export as a CSV to track comment resolution in your project management tool
  • Share a read-only link with your consultants
  • Copy individual responses to paste into your formal response letter

Tips for best results

  • Include the full comment text, not just the comment number. Context improves response quality significantly.
  • Specify whether the project is under IBC, CBC, or a specific local amendment so the AI cites the correct code edition.
  • For DSA projects, mention the project type (K-12, community college) as DSA has distinct requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Can the tool handle comments in multiple disciplines? Yes. The AI automatically identifies and groups comments by discipline. You can filter by discipline in the report view.

What if a comment references a local amendment I am not familiar with? The AI will flag any local amendments it identifies and provide context. For unusual or very recent amendments, it will note that manual verification is recommended.
